Meat Week 2012

For the BBQ fanatic what better way to enjoy BBQ in the dead of winter then with the Atlanta chapter of Meat Week. Meat week 2012 begins January 29th thru February 5th and consists of visiting seven BBQ restaurants in eight nights with the first and last nights dinners being held at Sonny's.

National BBQ Cup

This weekend the National BBQ Cup was held at the fair grounds n Cumming, Georgia. The largest KCBS sanctioned event east of the Mississippi with ninety-three professional teams, which included such names as: Pellet Envy (5^th overall),Buttrub.com, Quau, Lotta Bull BBQ and Cool Smoke (Reserve Champion). There were plenty of professional teams from Georgia present as well looking to take the points lead in the Georgia BBQ Championship. Local teams included Bub-Ba-Q (Grand Champion), Rescue Smokers (3^rd overall) and Pitt Bulls Up in Smoke (7^thoverall) to name a few. Only 0.57 of a point separated Bub-Ba-Q and Cool Smoke. Team Fat, Drunk and Stupid BBQ scored a perfect 180 in brisket. To see how your favorite team performed click here.

In addition to the professional teams there were thirty-one backyard teams competing this weekend. Team Comfort Zone placed first overall in the Backyard Division followed by Crawkee BBQ. The Atlanta BBQ Club entered the backyard division for the first time this year, placing eleventh overall.

The People's Choice winner was Bayou Barq with 44 votes out of thirty one entries. In all 929 votes were cast in the people's choice contest. The line for the People's Choice formed early and remained long for the majority of the afternoon.

Georgia BBQ Champion Update

The last event of the 2011 Georgia BBQ Championship was held today in Cumming. Bub-Ba-Q secured first place in the points with today's Grand Champion win at the National BBQ Cup.

National BBQ Cup Results

Bub-Ba-Q was named Grand Champion, placing 3rd in chicken, 10th in ribs, 21st in pork and 9th in brisket. Cool Smoke was named Reserve Grand Champion, with only 0.5714 separating the two teams. For the complete results click here.

Congrats to the 2011 Pig Jig Grand Champion Jack's Old South. Jack's Old South placed first in ribs and shoulder and fourth in whole hog.

Holy Smokes Claims Grand at Tennille

The run for the Georgia BBQ Championship

The 2011 Georgia BBQ Championship points chase is heating up as only 4.0002 points separate the top three teams going into the final three events for the year. Eleven of the top thirty-one teams competing for the Georgia BBQ Championship will be at the Cherokee Pignic in Canton next weekend.

Bub-Ba-Q, the 2010 Pignic Grand Champion and the winner of the 2010 Georgia BBQ Championship, shall be defending his title and attempting to over take the points leader Que’n Stew’n and Brew’n . Only 4.0002 points separate these two teams.

However Pit Bulls “Up in Smoke” coming off their Reserve Grand Champion win at the Lake Oconee BBQ Classic and currently ranked seconds in the points, will be there to fend off the competition.

South Pork, Grand Champion of the Lake Oconee BBQ Classic, is currently ranked eighth and 49.7152 points out of first, is the only other team in the top to compete at the Pignic.

The top twenty teams are separated by154.8574 points while the top thirty teams are separated by 791 points.

The other teams from the top thirty-one spots competing in the Pignic are, (in order of Georgia BBQ Championship ranking): Old Plantation BBQ, Johnny Mitchell’s Smokehouse, The Right Stuff BBQ, Chatam Artillery, Jus-Fer-Fun, The Pig Lebowki, Q-Hutta and the Dust’n and Rub’n Cooking Crew.

At the time of this article Que’n Stew’n and Brew’n was not listed as a contestant on the Cherokee Pignic website. Expect to see a change in the points leader and to see several teams in the top twenty to move up in the points ranking.

Come out to the Pignic and support your favorite team as they pull out all the stops to move up in the points chase for the 2011 Georgia BBQ Championship.

Georgia Teams take second and third at 10th Annual BBQ Championship & Hog Wild Festival

The 10th Annual BBQ Championship & Hog Wild Festival was held this weekend in Mobile, Alabama. The field consisted of sixty-nine cook teams, including Quau (2010 Grand Champion of 'The Jack'), Smokin' Triggers, ButtRub.com and Lotta Bull BBQ to name a few. While the Wild Bunch Butt Burners where named Grand Champion, Georgia's own Bub-Ba-Q was named Reserve Grand Champion, placing: 3rd in chicken, 20th in ribs, 2nd in pork and 12th in brisket. Jack's Old South placed a respectable third overall but placed 1st in brisket, 31st in chicken, 8th in ribs and 26th in pork. Congratulations to both Bub-Ba-Q and Jack's Old South.
